The Taiwan issue concerns China's core interests.

State Councilor and Defense Minister Wei Fenghe said Thursday that China would never give up an inch of its territory, including disputed waters in Taiwan and the South China Sea. He pointed out that the Taiwan issue is related to China's sovereignty and territorial integrity and to China's core interests. It is extremely dangerous to repeatedly challenge China's bottom line on this issue. If someone tries to split Taiwan from China, the Chinese army will act resolutely at all costs.
Wei Fenghe, attending the opening ceremony of the 8th Xiangshan Forum in Beijing, said that Sino-US military relations are important and sensitive. We should strive to implement the consensus of the heads of state of the two countries, adhere to non-conflict, non-resistance, mutual respect, win-win cooperation and go in opposite directions, so that the military relations between the two countries can truly become a stabilizer of Sino-US relations.
"China is still the only major country in the world that has not achieved reunification. In the face of complex and serious security threats, the Chinese armed forces shoulder a heavy responsibility and can not be slackened off. They always bear in mind that the sacred territory of the motherland can not be lost and that nothing else can be lost." Wei Fenghe said.
He said that the islands in the South China Sea have been China's territory since ancient times. This is the legacy of our ancestors and can not be discarded. China's construction of necessary defense facilities on its territory is the right of self-protection exercised by sovereign states. The right of self-defense has nothing to do with militarization. The current situation in the South China Sea is stable and proves that regional countries are capable of handling it. Do your own business. China opposes foreign countries to come to the South China Sea to demonstrate their force, to provoke and to cause tension under the guise of freedom of navigation and flight.
Wei Fenghe said that China has always pursued a military strategy of active defense. The Chinese armed forces are unswerving in pursuing the road of peaceful development, in safeguarding national sovereignty, security and development, in safeguarding national interests and security overseas, and in safeguarding world and regional peace and stability.
