North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo agreed to arrange a second U.S. -North Korea summit "as soon as possible" and discussed U.S. tests of North Korea's denuclearization steps, South Korea's presidential palace said Sunday.
Pompeio said his fourth visit to Pyongyang was a "further step" toward denuclearization and that he had "good and constructive talks" with Kim Jong-un, but more work remains to be done.
During his brief visit to Pyongyang, Pompeio held more than three hours of talks with Kim Jong-un aimed at breaking the deadlock in the denuclearization negotiations.
Subsequently, South Korean President Wen Yin and Pompeio held talks in Seoul.
Recently, North Korea has sent some negative signals that its actions have not met the requirements of the United States to publish its nuclear arsenal list and take irreversible steps to denuclearize it.
Wen's office said Pompeio said he discussed with Kim Jong-un the steps taken to denuclearize North Korea, as well as the U.S. government's oversight of denuclearization, which Washington considers key, as well as the steps the United States will take in response.
State Department spokesman Heather Nauert said in a statement that Kim Jong-un had invited inspectors to visit the Fengxili nuclear test site to confirm that the facility had been irreversibly dismantled. The statement did not provide further details.
According to Yin Yongcan, Chief Secretary of the Tsing Wa Tai Bulletin, Pompeio and Kim Jong-un also agreed to form a working group "as soon as possible" to discuss the denuclearization process and the second summit. Kim Jeong-eun wrote to Trump last month to propose a second summit.
